Botos

Eugen Botos (born 9 April 1982 in Bratislava) is a Slovak pianist, violinist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer. He comes from a notable musical family, his father is the violinist and conductor Eugen Botos senior and his grandfather was the legendary primas Jan Berky-Mrenica senior.

He studied violin at the Bratislava Conservatory and then at the Academy of Performing Arts. Alongside classical music he worked in jazz, funk, soul and R&B from the start. He also played in the orchestra of the Slovak National Theatre.

In 2002 he founded the jazz funk project Eugen Botos Finally, where he is bandleader, principal writer, producer and pianist. His work brings together jazz, funk, fusion, soul, R&B and pop, with the emphasis on live playing, real arrangement and international production.

Over his career he has worked with major international artists including Dionne Warwick, Brian McKnight, Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten, Dave Weckl, Jeff Lorber, Eric Marienthal, Maysa Leak, Alain Caron, Janek Gwizdala, Otmaro Ruiz, Sheldon Reynolds and Gary Bias of Earth, Wind & Fire.

The album My Space came out in 2010 and brought him his first significant international success.

The album Final Definition was recorded at Westlake Recording Studios in Los Angeles and Platinum Studios in New York. It was released in 2016 by the Japanese label P-Vine Records. Shortly after release it reached second place in Japanese sales and was nominated for the Slovak jazz award Esprit.

The album includes Symphony of Broken Hearts with the legendary singer Dionne Warwick. The track was later selected by Roc Nation for an international project charting significant eras of African American music.

In 2021 he released the album Love For Real, also nominated for the Esprit award, finishing third in the public vote.

Eugen Botos also writes and produces for other artists. For the rapper Majk Spirit he composed Beautiful Dreamer and I Was Wrong, and he has produced further pop, R&B and hip hop projects.

His notable projects include the track and video Rhythm Fantastique with Brian McKnight. The video was directed by Simon Firsht, who has worked on films including Casino Royale and Wonder Woman.

Eugen Botos is one of the Slovak musicians with real international reach. His work puts leading Slovak players next to global names and has represented Slovak music internationally for years.
